He said it with those stupid wide eyes. The kind that look like they’ve just seen God — or maybe just their own reflection in a woman who made them feel something other than in control.

“I’ve never felt this way before,” he whispered like it was some sacred prophecy.

Like I should be flattered. Like I should bow down and thank him for feeling anything at all.

But that sentence? That line? That’s usually the soft launch of the downfall.

That’s the prelude to the slow fade, the breadcrumbing, the confusion.

That line means you’ll be the one that haunts him — but only after he breaks you and walks away like he didn’t.

Let me tell you something no one likes admitting out loud: men like that do feel deeply.

But only when it’s inconvenient. Only when it’s unsafe. Only when it’s with someone they know they can’t keep, but can’t stop touching.

You become their drug and their detox. Their high and their hangover.

And somewhere in between his late-night texts and early morning silences, you realize you’ve been cast as the emotional cliff-jump he needed to feel alive again.
