Puc

I think one of the strangest things about being in your late 20s is realizing that the life you once dreamed of can slowly become the very thing that exhausts you.

When people talk about ambition, they usually talk about
The highlights.
The promotion.
The traveling.
The relationship everyone envies.

The “you made it” moments everyone can post online.

But nobody really talks about the grief that comes with it.

The grief of outgrowing people you thought would stay forever.
The grief of becoming too busy to feel present in your own life.
The grief of slowly having less time for the people you love.

Because somewhere along the way, your calendar became fuller while your presence became smaller.

There’s a reason people say:
“you can have more money, but less time.”

And maybe that’s the quiet trade nobody notices at first.
You work longer hours to build a better future, only to realize you’re missing little moments happening in the present.

The dinners you skipped.
The calls you said you’d return later.
The family gatherings you attended physically, but mentally never arrived at.

And maybe that’s also why, the older you get, the smaller your circle becomes.

Not always because of conflict.
Sometimes people are just growing in different directions.
Different priorities. Different timelines. Different emotional capacities.

Some people just slowly become strangers to your daily life.

In your early 20s, friendship feels effortless because everyone is still within reach.
But in your late 20s, love — in every form — starts requiring intention.
Time becomes harder to give.
Presence becomes more expensive.
And suddenly, maintaining connection takes more than simply wanting to.

And in your late 20s, that realization hits differently.
Because this is the age where everyone starts moving in different directions.

Some people are building families.
Some are chasing careers across cities.
Some are trying to survive silently.
And somehow, even when your life is full, it can still feel emotionally distant.

The grief of realizing that some dreams only survive because you never got close enough to see what they actually cost.

In your 20s, ambition feels romantic.
Like movement means meaning.
Like exhaustion is proof that your life matters.

So you keep going.
You survive on delayed rest, postponed happiness, and the belief that one day everything will finally feel worth it.

Until one day, you get the thing you wanted and realize you miss the version of yourself who still knew how to live without constantly earning it.

I think that’s the part nobody warns you about.

Sometimes ambition gives you everything except the capacity to enjoy it.
Sometimes the most exhausted people are the ones who got exactly what they prayed for.

And maybe growing up is learning that success was never supposed to replace peace.
That being loved, feeling safe, having time, being mentally okay,
those are achievements too.

Maybe the dream was never the destination.
Maybe the point was becoming someone who can still feel alive while chasing it.

So if you’re in your late 20s, feeling lost between ambition and exhaustion,
maybe you’re not failing.
Maybe you’re just learning that a meaningful life is not only about becoming more, but also about not becoming a stranger to yourself while trying to build a life you once prayed for.
