You’re Not Falling Apart. You’re Detonating. Here’s the Damage Report.
The war is over. You have escaped the active battlefield. You have gone No-Contact. The silence you so desperately craved has finally arrived. And then, a strange and terrifying thing happens.
You start to fall apart.
Just when you thought you were safe, your body begins to wave a white flag. A strange fatigue sets in. A deep sadness descends. Your nervous system starts acting like a corrupted piece of software. This is not a sign that you are failing at healing. It is the sound of everything you had to bury — the pain, the fear, the rage — finally rising to the surface all at once, demanding to be felt.
And the body, which kept the score in silence for years, finally begins to speak.
Chronic Fatigue: Your Body’s War Economy Has Collapsed
During the abuse, your body was a nation on a perpetual war footing. Every ounce of energy was diverted to the front lines — to managing their moods, meeting their endless demands, to navigating their rage, to simply surviving the day. Your cellular energy system, the mitochondria, was red-lining 24/7, like factories forced into round-the-clock production with no maintenance breaks.
Now that the war is over, those factories are not just tired; they are broken. This is not laziness. This is mitochondrial dysfunction. It is the feeling of being “heavy,” of wading through mud just to get out of bed. It is the logical, physiological consequence of a body that has been running on pure, terrified adrenaline for years. Your economy has collapsed, and your nation is in a state of profound energy depression.
Major Depressive Disorder: The Silence After the Bombing
While you were under active shelling, you didn’t have the luxury of feeling the full depth of your grief. Your entire system was focused on one thing: survival.
Depression often hits after you leave. This is the cruel paradox of safety. The adrenaline finally fades, the immediate threat is gone, and you are left alone in the devastating quiet with the full, crushing weight of what they have endured.
This is not just sadness. This is a profound loss of motivation, an emotional numbness, a brain fog so thick you can’t think straight. It is your mind and body finally feeling safe enough to acknowledge the true scale of the wreckage. You are not falling apart because you are weak; you are falling apart because you are finally safe enough to do so.
Libido on Lockdown: How Trauma Shuts Down Desire
During a prolonged toxic relationship which is warzone, your body is flooded 24/7 with the stress hormones cortisol and adrenaline. Their only job is to keep you alive — to fight, to flee, or to freeze.
Sexual desire, on the other hand, is a peacetime luxury. It runs on a completely different fuel: a delicious cocktail of dopamine, testosterone, estrogen, and oxytocin. In a war economy, your body makes a ruthless executive decision: all non-essential systems must be shut down to divert power to the front lines. And your libido? It’s the first thing to go.
Think of it this way: you can’t be planning a romantic dinner when your house is on fire.
· Cortisol acts like a ruthless budget-cutter, slashing the production of testosterone and estrogen.
· Adrenaline keeps your entire nervous system clenched and ready for impact, making the relaxation required for intimacy physically impossible.
This isn’t just a “mood killer.” It’s a biological lockdown that can manifest as erectile dysfunction in men or excruciating PMS in women.
Only after trauma is processed, your body has restored nutrients, and a safe environment is maintained for several months, can sexual desire gradually revive.
Dysautonomia: The Un-detonated Ordnance in Your Nervous System
This happens in people who are nutritionally depleted and have never allowed themselves to truly sit alone and have a raw, ugly cry. Their trauma remains largely unprocessed. That “poison” of unresolved pain seeps deep into your autonomic nervous system — the ancient, non-verbal part of your brain that controls your heartbeat, digestion, and breathing.
Your nervous system is now a minefield of un-detonated ordnance. The trauma is trapped, and it will try to get out in any way it can, resulting in a bizarre and confusing array of symptoms: a racing heart out of nowhere, sudden dizziness, nausea that lasts for several hours, thermoregulatory problems, a bad cough, frantic activity, racing thoughts you can’t control.
This is dysautonomia. And it is the reason you will drive your doctors mad. You will go to them with a symptom — a bad cough — and they, in their well-meaning but catastrophic ignorance, will treat the symptom. They are the mechanic fixing a flat tire on a car whose engine is riddled with bullet holes. They do not have the time, the training, or the framework to listen to your trauma history. They are not equipped for this war.
Medicine treats symptoms because the system is built that way. So they treat the symptom — your cough — but because the underlying issue, the trauma, is not resolved, the disease manifests in a new form, and you are left feeling like a hopeless hypochondriac.
If left untreated, dysautonomia can worsen, potentially contributing to complex chronic illnesses such as cardiovascular disease and a weakened immune system.
You Have Read the Damage Report. Now, Begin the Disarmament.
These are not your failings. These are your wounds. They are the predictable, logical, and devastating consequences of the war you survived. Recognizing them is the first step. Disarming them is the next.
This is not a journey of healing; it is a campaign of reconstruction and ordnance disposal. It requires a new strategy.
For this mission, I have created The Survivor’s War Chest.
- The Bomb Disposal Manuals: The Art of War: Survivor Edition and Psychological Warfare are your guides to understanding the enemy’s tactics. They teach you how the mines were planted, so you can stop walking into new ones.
- The Field Medic’s Kit: The War on Lies and Armor of Truth Journals are the tools you use to deprogram the poison from your mind, which is the first step to allowing your nervous system to finally stand down from high alert.
Your body has not betrayed you. It is simply telling the truth about the war. It’s time to listen.
