Thereâs a certain kind of exhaustion that doesnât come from doing too much, but from feeling too much without ever being given clarity.
Itâs being treated like you matterâ,âlike youâre chosen, until the moment it actually counts.
We act like we belong to each other. There are late-night conversations, the kind of attention that feels too intentional to be accidental. The way you look at me, the way you hold onto moments a little longer than necessary, it all feels real. It all feels like something.
And maybe thatâs the problem.
Because to me, it is something.
But to you, itâs never enough to be named.
I introduce you as my person, without hesitation. Not because Iâm trying to claim you, but because thatâs genuinely how it feels. Youâre not just âa friendâ to me and pretending otherwise feels like lying, especially to myself.
But then I think about it,
what if one day someone asks you about me?
And you pause for a second, searching for the right word (?)
before settling on the easiest one.
âJust a friend.â
Maybe you wouldnât even mean to hurt me. Maybe youâd say it casually, or out of habit, or because itâs simpler than explaining whatever this is.
But the thought of it alone is enough.
Because how do I stand there, knowing everything weâve been, everything weâve shared,
and hear it reduced to something that small?
Do you even realize how that would feel?
Itâs not just confusing, itâs quietly humiliating.
Having to downplay something that already feels so real to me. Having to pretend it doesnât mean as much, just to match the way itâs being presented.
Because Iâm stuck in something that looks like a relationship, feels like a relationship,
but exists without a name.
And I keep asking myself the same question, over and over again,
When do I stop guessing what I am to you?
When do I stop feeling like I have to shrink what we are just to make it easier for you?
How long am I supposed to sit in this in-between?
Because Iâve already chosen you, in ways you donât even realize.
And all Iâm asking for isnât something complicated.
Iâm tired of feeling like something that exists only when itâs convenient.
Close enough to matter, but not enough to be claimed.
And maybe the most exhausting part is,
I donât even know if youâre still figuring things out or if youâve already decided, and Iâm just the one hoping itâll turn into something more.
Either way, Iâm still here, waiting for an answer I shouldnât have to beg for.
