This topic has been very relevant to me lately. I have faced my underground areas. I have opened some Pandora moments, and I have cried myself out, but later I have been able to see myself closer to reality and further from expectations.
Expectations, what a word. More than a word is a compass for many of us for a long time. It becomes our north star, and our finishing line until you can no more and crumble without knowing why.
I disappointed myself, I could not be that, but in the middle of the night, you hear a whisper telling you that maybe at the end , you did not want to be that.
Then a new journey starts, one that will show you hidden faces, inner fears, security pitfalls and broken mirrors. No, you do not have to be the opposite of what you were, a normal first reaction. That is sort of going in the same direction as before, though with a different mask. The only axis of experience that you know.
There is a new route to wander, to rediscover who you are in terms of soul identity. It is true that we need to honor our roots, our history, our life story, which is a big part of our identity, but it is also true that we often just follow scripts because that is the way it has always been, even though it hurts us deeply.
