I used to say sorry for caring too much — until I realized my kindness wasn’t the problem.

For years, I believed that being kind meant being endlessly patient.

That forgiving people who hurt me made me “good.”

That explaining myself over and over was proof of my sincerity.

But I was wrong.

Kindness without boundaries is self-betrayal.

I kept showing up for people who never showed up for me.

I kept listening to stories that didn’t include me.

I kept saying “it’s okay” when my heart was already breaking.

Every time I tried to speak up, I ended up apologizing instead.

Sorry for feeling hurt.

Sorry for expecting effort.

Sorry for wanting to be treated with the same care I give so freely.

Then one quiet morning, I woke up tired — not the kind of tired sleep can fix, but the kind that whispers,

“you’ve given enough.”

That was the day I stopped apologizing.

I didn’t make a big announcement.

I didn’t send long messages explaining my boundaries.

I just stopped saying sorry — for caring, for trying, for being me.

Because I finally understood something simple yet powerful:

My kindness was not the problem. Their inability to value it was.

Now, I still choose kindness, but I choose it wisely.

I give where it’s appreciated.

I listen when it’s mutual.

I love when it’s safe.

I’m no longer ashamed of my soft heart.

I just guard it better.

The day I stopped apologizing for being kind to the wrong people was the day I started being kind to myself.

And that, finally, felt right. 🌸

If you’re in your healing era — learning to love without losing yourself — this story is for you.
