What determines the success of a relationship? Is it love or compatibility?

I doomscroll for hours on end like the average adult with a smartphone. Is it a healthy habit? No, it is not. But we all know how challenging it becomes to put the phone down once the thumb starts sliding over the touchscreen.

You’ve got to view the next post to give the brain that dopamine hit. We are such little addicts, aren’t we?

In the course of this dopamine-scrolling, I have developed a parasocial relationship with couples, some of whom live across the globe. And it’s not just with top celebrities, influencers, and content creators have a way of involving us in their relationships until we develop an attachment.

Admittedly, I have a biased interest in gay relationships.

I am straight as a nail, but I find heterosexual relationships debilitatingly boring. They feel like watching the same movie plot over and over again.

This article is not about a battle of sexualities. Each has its own upsides, downsides, and quirks. However, after years of observing couples online, I have noticed that it is not too hard to identify a relationship that is doomed to fail.

I have seen people choose partners who are their opposites in terms of interests, traits, and personalities. They downplay the impacts of these differences during the honeymoon phase, their defense…
