I thought we were meant to be forever. I thought we had made it. I thought you were the one I would marry. Maybe it was my fault – for believing we were fine, for placing too many expectations on us, for thinking you would stay and fix everything.
I cried so much during that time, my mind filled with endless “what ifs.”
What if you had stayed?
What if I had begged you to stay?
What if I had done everything you asked?
Maybe we would still be together – sharing quiet moments, celebrating my birthday side by side. But that reality will never exist.
Maybe I asked for too much. Maybe I loved you more as an idea than a person. Or maybe I was just afraid of losing you. I don’t know….
I still find myself crying, relapsing into memories when I visit places we once shared, realizing that time will never turn back for us.
I regret all the words I never said. All I want, even now, is to reach out to you and beg you to fix this with me.
But I’ve come to understand that maybe we were never meant for each other. Maybe God has another plan. I know I have to let you go, even though it hurts – because you are still the one I wanted.
So, let’s meet again someday – when we are ready, when we are whole, when we have both found our own happiness and you don’t have to worry about me. I will be fine.
At least, I tried.
