Alexi on Oisín

What were you hoping for?
A good time and to try something new.

First impressions?
Tall, handsome. Twenty minutes late.

What did you talk about?
Work. Travel. Whose performance was best out of Charli, Chappell and Sabrina at Primavera this year. The obligatory coming out stories and dating/hookup horrors.

Most awkward moment?
Probably when we were in the cab going to a bar after the date and he made his excuses to leave because he wasn’t feeling great. I suspect it may actually have been because the conversation had run dry.

Good table manners?
Impeccable!

Best thing about Oisín?
He’s super polite and well mannered.

Would you introduce to your friends?
Yes, in a “this is the guy I went on a Guardian blind date with” context.

Q&A

Fancy a blind date?

Show

Blind date is Saturday’s dating column: every week, two
strangers are paired up for dinner and drinks, and then spill the beans
to us, answering a set of questions. This runs, with a photograph we
take of each dater before the date, in Saturday magazine (in the
UK) and online at theguardian.com every Saturday. It’s been running since 2009 – you can read all about how we put it together here.

What questions will I be asked?
We
ask about age, location, occupation, hobbies, interests and the type of
person you are looking to meet. If you do not think these questions
cover everything you would like to know, tell us what’s on your mind.

Can I choose who I match with?
No,
it’s a blind date! But we do ask you a bit about your interests,
preferences, etc – the more you tell us, the better the match is likely
to be.

Can I pick the photograph?
No, but don’t worry: we’ll choose the nicest ones.

What personal details will appear?
Your first name, job and age.

How should I answer?
Honestly
but respectfully. Be mindful of how it will read to your date, and that
Blind date reaches a large audience, in print and online.

Will I see the other person’s answers?
No. We may edit yours and theirs for a range of reasons, including length, and we may ask you for more details.

Will you find me The One?
We’ll try! Marriage! Babies!

Can I do it in my home town?
Only if it’s in the UK. Many of our applicants live in London, but we would love to hear from people living elsewhere.

How to apply

Thank you for your feedback.

Describe Oisín in three words.
Tall, sweet and smiley.

What do you think Oisín made of you?
I think I came across quite well, but you never know!

Did you go on somewhere?
See above.

And … did you kiss?
That wasn’t really the vibe, which I sensed quite early on.

If you could change one thing about the evening, what would it be?
More chemistry.

Marks out of 10?
6.5.

Would you meet again?
I don’t think either of us felt much of a spark.

Oisín on Alexi

What were you hoping for?
Connection, good conversation and a bit of fun.

First impressions?
Handsome and easy to talk to. Also, very tall.

What did you talk about?
Online dating. Finding gay friends and community. Where we’re from. Work.

Most awkward moment?
We asked for the most expensive bottle of wine, but our request was rejected by the restaurant!

Good table manners?
No complaints from my side.

Best thing about Alexi?
He seemed like he knew himself and what he wants from life.

Would you introduce Alexi to your friends?
Yes.

Describe Alexi in three words.
Fun, intelligent and spontaneous.

What do you think Alexi made of you?
Friendly, fun and perhaps tired.

Did you go on somewhere?
We were going to, but jet lag and exhaustion kicked in for me in the taxi.

And … did you kiss?
We didn’t.

If you could change one thing about the evening, what would it be?
Although the restaurant was excellent, we discovered we both live miles away in Hackney. So the location.

Marks out of 10?
8.

Would you meet again?
I think it was friend vibes for both of us.

Alexi and Oisín ate at Chet’s, London W12. Fancy a blind date? Email blind.date@theguardian.com
