We tell others they are worthy of love, yet hesitate to believe it for ourselves.
We often hear these words as a call to care for others — to be gentle, to understand, to offer warmth to those who might be quietly struggling. And it’s true, the world always needs more kindness. But as I read these words again and again, I realize something we often forget: kindness isn’t only meant to be given away. It is also something we must give to ourselves.
So many of us live to understand others — to listen, to empathize, to make people feel seen. We tell others they are worthy of love, yet hesitate to believe it for ourselves.
But kindness begins where you stand.
It starts in how gently you speak to yourself when things go wrong, in how patiently you move when the world feels heavy. The truth is, the pressure will always exist. Some days, the doubts will be louder than the hope. But even then, show yourself a little kindness. Allow yourself to walk at your own pace. To learn in your own time. To make mistakes and still believe you’re growing. Be tender with your heart. Be proud of your softness. Be brave enough to heal and to be human.
Let the same kindness you show to others find its way to your own heart. You cannot pour light into others if you keep your own heart in the dark. Believe that you are worthy, even before anyone tells you so.
