If you’ve felt emotionally overwhelmed the last three weeks, you’re definitely not alone and there’s a valid reason for it.
Mercury was retrograde in the sign of Cancer from June 29 through July 23, and for many people, this retrograde seemed to reach much deeper than the usual frustrations associated with Mercury retrograde.
While every retrograde brings its own lessons, this one appeared to stir the emotional body, bringing old wounds, insecurities, relationship patterns, and unmet needs to the surface.
Those with strong Cardinal placements (Aries, Cancer, Libra, and Capricorn) may have felt this energy particularly strongly, although anyone can experience the effects of a transit depending on their birth chart and personal circumstances.
Mercury finally stationed direct on July 23rd, but the story doesn’t necessarily end there. We can still experience the effects of a retrograde during its post-shadow period, which lasts roughly about two weeks.
Because Mercury was retrograde in the sign of Cancer and Cancer is ruled by the Moon, the celestial body most closely associated in astrology with our emotions and intuition, our feelings during this retrograde felt very unpredictable just as the Moon’s phases.
