A journey in emotional rebranding through fluffy chaos.
A new definition of ‘Crazy Cat Lady’
Okay… hear me out. Overall this journey sits somewhere between “emotional growth” and “Should we all be concerned about Jen?.” It definitely screams a new take on ‘Crazy Cat Lady’.
In 2020, I cofounded a company with my brother. Fast-forward to a hiring round, and we’re interviewing candidates — one of whom is named Morrison.
Morrison also just happens to be the name of my ex’s aggressive father — a man who has the same calming presence as a blender full of bees. A man I am very happy to no longer have to be around.
I’m sitting there interviewing this new Morrison… and annoyingly, he’s fantastic. Smart, kind, an absolute culture fit. But every time I say or hear “Morrison” my trauma walks back into the room and cranks up my heart rate for a unappreciated Anxiety Workout. At least I’m burning more calories, I’ll enjoy some guilt free cake later.
We interview the other candidates, but it’s painfully obvious… Morrison is the best candidate. I don’t want a Morrison in my life again. But it’s not about me, it’s about the best fit for the job, the team and the company.
