Miley Cyrus confirmed her engagement to Maxx Morando in a gushing interview this week, noting her personal and professional lives have become “perfectly aligned.”
Appearing on “Good Morning America” Tuesday, Cyrus happily showed off her engagement ring, and said her new fiancé surprised her by popping the question during a recent trip to Japan.
“I am not easy to surprise because I love to control every situation, and I had completely surrendered,” she said. “I actually had never gone to Japan, which I did that purposefully. I wanted one place in the world that could be my special place that I saved for me.”
She went on to note: “Me and Maxx have been together for four years, and it’s very obvious the drastic amount of growth that I’ve had in those four years. You just want to dream the biggest you can, and you want to have someone by your side that always tells you, ‘You can do it.’”
The three-time Grammy winner’s “GMA” appearance comes days after she and Morando, a drummer for the rock band Liily, sparked engagement rumors when they walked the red carpet at the premiere of “Avatar: Fire and Ash” in Los Angeles.

Many outlets took note of Cyrus’ engagement ring, which was later revealed to have been designed by Jacquie Aiche, who has also crafted signature pieces for Selena Gomez and Taylor Swift, among other stars.
Cyrus and Morando seemingly confirmed their relationship in April 2022, even though they’d been romantically linked in the media for months beforehand. Morando and his Liily bandmates would go on to appear on the NBC holiday special “Miley’s New Year’s Eve Party,” hosted by Cyrus. The pair also worked together in the studio on “Something Beautiful,” Cyrus’ latest album.
In 2023, Cyrus told British Vogue that she and Morando had been introduced on a blind date. “Well, it was blind for me and not really for him,” she said at the time. “I thought, ‘The worst that can happen is I leave.’”
Last year, she told Harper’s Bazaar that falling in love with one of her professional collaborators came naturally: “I worked with my dad forever. That’s how me and my ex-husband met each other. I’ve always worked with the people that I love. And Maxx just inspires me so much.”
Elsewhere in her “GMA” chat, Cyrus noted that “Dream as One,” her theme song for “Avatar: Fire and Ash,” reflected her current mindset.
“People think of it as a film that’s larger than life at this grand scale, but actually at the heart of ‘Avatar,’ it’s really about relationships, love, having each other’s back,” she said. “And so it actually felt very aligned with my life.”
