Moving On
For the first week after a breakup, I’ve found that scheduling “grieving time” into your daily routine can really help.
Your mind will naturally want to pore over past conversations and interactions with your ex, but it’s not healthy if this is the only thing you’ll do 24/7. To avoid getting overwhelmed, give yourself 20 to 30 minutes per day to focus on the breakup and just sit with your emotions.
Once the time is up, go back to your regular routine and focus on your daily tasks. By taking these steps, you can grieve your relationship and process your feelings without allowing them to spiral out of control.
You also have to ensure that your physical needs are met every day. It can be tempting to stop eating or sleeping when you’re dealing with a horrible breakup, but doing so will only make you more miserable.
So, even if your emotions are all over the place, make sure to have three balanced meals per day and get enough rest and sleep. You might not be in the right headspace to go to the gym and do your daily workouts, but try to pencil a walk or hike in your schedule so you can clear your mind and give your body some exercise.
