What were you hoping for?
A fun, easy-going evening with some yummy grub.
First impressions?
Sarah was smiley and ordered a spicy margarita on arrival. I knew we were in for a fun one.
What did you talk about?
Marathon running. Weddings. Babies. Dolly Alderton. My degree and her job interview the next day (I hope she got it).
Most awkward moment?
I did dribble several shards of prawn cracker down my front but hopefully Sarah didn’t notice.

Blind date is Saturday’s dating column: every week, two
strangers are paired up for dinner and drinks, and then spill the beans
to us, answering a set of questions. This runs, with a photograph we
take of each dater before the date, in Saturday magazine (in the

What questions will I be asked?
We
ask about age, location, occupation, hobbies, interests and the type of
person you are looking to meet. If you do not think these questions
cover everything you would like to know, tell us what’s on your mind.
Can I choose who I match with?
No,
it’s a blind date! But we do ask you a bit about your interests,
preferences, etc – the more you tell us, the better the match is likely
to be.
Can I pick the photograph?
No, but don’t worry: we’ll choose the nicest ones.
What personal details will appear?
Your first name, job and age.
How should I answer?
Honestly
but respectfully. Be mindful of how it will read to your date, and that
Blind date reaches a large audience, in print and online.
Will I see the other person’s answers?
No. We may edit yours and theirs for a range of reasons, including length, and we may ask you for more details.
Will you find me The One?
We’ll try! Marriage! Babies!
Can I do it in my home town?
Only if it’s in the UK. Many of our applicants live in London, but we would love to hear from people living elsewhere.

She did laugh a few times, but I’m not sure if it was at me or with me.

One more drink before the last train home.
And … did you kiss?
Not this time.
If you could change one thing about the evening what would it be?
I would rather have met on a different day than a miserable Monday in Manchester.

What were you hoping for?
A plus-one to my best friend’s wedding and for my dad to see me in the paper.
First impressions?
A friendly smile and super welcoming.
What did you talk about?
Travelling. Glastonbury. Families, DJ’ing. Writing. Running marathons and, of course, hero rats.
Most awkward moment?
I was incredibly sweaty when I arrived as I’d power walked there.
Good table manners?
I did manage to teach him how to use chopsticks, but is there ever a way to eat chicken wings nicely?
Best thing about Henry?
His positive outlook on life.

I think he would get on with anyone.

Warm, intriguing and relatable.
What do you think Henry made of you?
Probably a strange sweaty lady telling stories of working in an abattoir.
Did you go on somewhere?
We went for a very quick drink afterwards.
And … did you kiss?
No, it was very much friends vibes.
If you could change one thing about the evening what would it be?
Not having a job interview the morning after. It was also a Monday evening, so not the most exciting.

Probably not, I don’t think there was a romantic spark – it was all very friendly.
