Real love starts with how we treat ourself, not how someone else treats us.

I am not a relationship coach, but I have been with someone and our relationship could not last long. I have seen many people navigating relationships, getting into them, getting out of them, healing from them, or trying to make them work.

In all of them, I have noticed the four most common brutal truths about relationships.

1. The most important relationship is the one with yourself

The most important relationship you will ever have is the one with yourself.

Most people treat it like the least important one. Our relationship with ourself shapes how we treat others, how we allow others to treat us, and how we experience life.

You cannot love yourself at 50% and expect to give 100% love to someone else.

The love and acceptance we have for ourself expands or limits what we can give to others. When we neglect our self-worth, we start looking for others to fill the void. We tolerate mistreatment, chase validation, and…
