One of Europe’s Wealthiest Monarchies Will Host a Royal Wedding Next Month

While Liechtenstein may be one of the smallest countries in Europe, it will soon host one of the most extravagant events of the season: the royal wedding of Princess Marie Caroline and Leopoldo Maduro Vollmer. The couple, who first announced their engagement last year, is reportedly planning on saying “I do” on August 30, 2025, according to Vanitatis. The duo has yet to release additional details surrounding their big day, including where they plan to tie the knot. However, recent reports speculate that the two will likely host their nuptials at Vaduz Castle, the palace and official residence of the Prince of Liechtenstein, Hans-Adam II.

On October 21, 2024, the family issued the official engagement announcement detailing the duo’s intention to wed. “H.S.H. the Hereditary Prince and H.R.H. the Hereditary Princess von und zu Liechtenstein are delighted to announce the engagement of their daughter Princess Marie Caroline to Mr Leopoldo Maduro Vollmer,” the statement read. According to the press release, Princess Marie Caroline currently lives in London and works in the fashion industry. She received her undergraduate degree from the Parsons School of Design in Paris and New York in 2020. Leopoldo, who is originally from Venezuela, attended the University of St Andrews—the place where Prince William and Kate Middleton first met—and also lives in London, working in investment management.

While it’s unclear who will make the guest list for the couple’s upcoming nuptials, Vanitatis reported that members of the royal families of Luxembourg and Belgium are expected to attend. The parents of Princess Marie Caroline, Prince Alois and Princess Sophie, frequently serve as representatives of the small European nation around the world. In 2023, the two attended the coronation of King Charles III and Queen Camilla. It’s not confirmed whether or not the British royals plan to be at the August nuptials. Earlier this year, Prince Alois also sat next to other European monarchs at Pope Leo XIV’s inauguration mass in St. Peter’s Square.

Princess Marie Caroline appears to be following in her parents’ footsteps when it comes to her royal wedding. On July 3, 1993, Prince Alois and Princess Sophie tied the knot in Vaduz. However, while the bride appears to have plans to hold her celebration at the official palace, her parents said “I do” at the St. Florin Cathedral. Additionally, on June 25 of that year, they held a pre-wedding reception at Schloss Nymphenburg, a palace in nearby Munich, Germany.
